About me

My name is Thomas Harris, I’m in my twenties and I now live in Kilkenny, Ireland, having previously lived in Essex, England. I am an avid birdwatcher and photographer. I started birdwatching as a hobby in around 2008 and since then I’ve developed my birdwatching and photography skills while also learning a huge amount about the wildlife I observe. Essex actually provided some great locations to go birdwatching and see a large range of wildlife species, I became a volunteer at Abberton Reservoir Essex Wildlife Trust in 2009 where I helped put up and maintain bird boxes, plant trees, trim hedges, clear scrub, monitor pond life and a variety of other things to help maintain the reserve.

Now living in Ireland it’s given me a whole new landscape to learn about and explore and some different species that I never had access to before.

My aims are to grow as a photographer and to become more well known as a photographer within the wildlife photography community. I now also film my own vlogs to show off my local patch and share the wildlife that I see in a different way.

My favourite bird is the Hen Harrier, which unfortunately hasn’t fared well in the UK recently with zero pairs managing to breed in 2013. See http://www.rspb.org.uk/skydancer/ I’m lucky enough to have had them on my old local patch during the winter a few times, including 2 spectacular males.
